Portraits of Jesus

Mark is the earliest and shortest of the four gospels — a fast-moving portrait of Jesus as the suffering Son of God who brings the Kingdom through His teaching, miracles, death, and resurrection. It is raw, vivid, and deeply human, and it asks each of us a question: will you follow Jesus even when it costs you?

Major Themes

  • ·Jesus as the suffering servant
  • ·Urgency — “immediately” appears again and again
  • ·The Kingdom of God breaking into the world
  • ·Faith vs. misunderstanding — even the disciples struggle
  • ·The cost of discipleship
  • ·Jesus' authority over nature, demons, sickness, and sin
